Vanilla Air was founded on November 1, 2013 and started its operations on December 20, 2013 with two aircraft. The low-cost carrier from Japan traces its history back to 2013 when AirAsia exited its investment on AirAsia Japan; the latter continued operating and rebranded into Vanilla Air on November 1, 2013. Upon this development, Vanilla Air would inherit the two aircraft and all of AirAsia’s staff, eventually expanding towards serving resort destinations and longer-haul routes.
