FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd operates as Firefly, and is a Malaysian point-to-point carrier with its head office located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. Firefly is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines and claims to be Malaysia’s first community airline when the airline was founded on March 16, 2007 with operations commencing on April 3, 2007 with a flight from Penang to Kota Bharu.
Our Firefly reviews look at the airline’s history and its main services and features as seen from its official website, as well as what we think of them.
Firefly operates from two hubs in Penang and Subang, in Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport and Penang International Airport, and with secondary hubs located at Senai International Airport and Sultan Ismail Petra Airport flying to 19 destinations. As of November 2016, Firefly has 12 ATR 72-500 and 8 ATR 72-600, having started operations with two 50-seater Fokker 50 aircraft.
Their management is separate from their parent airline Malaysia Airlines, as they serve Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. Mr. Ignatius Ong is the CEO of Firefly.
What Users Have to Say
Out of 54 Firefly reviews, Firefly was rated with 7/10 on Airlinequality due to a mix of positive and negative Firefly reviews:
“Overall, I love the idea of taking small plane. Everything goes very smooth and fast, from check-in, boarding and taxing etc. Firefly provides more than enough refreshment and drinks onboard,” writes one of the Firefly reviews. Most of the positive Firefly reviews recommended the Malaysian airline, and people wrote that they would love to use it again. They say that the interiors were clean and that their cabin crew were friendly and professional – overall, service with the airline was excellent.
“Beyond Convenience,” is Firefly’s company slogan, and the airline focuses on giving their passengers the basic services. Their website’s interesting-looking and is easily understandable and navigable. A lot of information is showing on their upper tabs and throughout the site.
From the homepage, on the search engine, one can manage their booking and check-in online, and read a lot of sections about the airline’s services. Firefly’s flight and flight+hotel promotions are showing at the middle of the page, with quick links about their flights featured further down below the screen.
Fireflyz is the official inflight magazine of Firefly, which you can check out here. Meanwhile, Firefly’s services are available on mobile from the App Store and on Google Play Store in this link from their official website. I would recommend flyers use Firefly if they want an airline that’s safe, efficient, and has a good reputation. The feedback and Firefly reviews about Firefly are mostly positive, and the airline’s great services are a guarantee since their foundation.
